SUMMARY:ZOOM: Seahorses
DESCRIPTION:The Marine Discovery Center’s October online lecture will focus on “Exploring Seahorse Research at Bethune-Cookman University.”\n\nGuest speaker for this webinar will be Dr. Sarah Krejci\, assistant professor of biology and integrated environmental science at Bethune Cookman University in Daytona Beach.\nSeahorses are a unique group of fish which have captivated generations of people around the world. However\, their wild populations are facing threats from habitat loss\, collection for the aquarium and curio trades and climate change.\nKrejci and her students conduct research on laboratory and field populations of seahorses and their relatives\, the pipefish\, to illustrate the impacts that humans have on coastal ecosystems.\nKrejci will share highlights of their studies\, including photos and videos of their recent conjoined seahorse twins that were born in the university’s lab.\nThis lecture will introduce webinar attendees to the details of seahorse biology and ecology and students’ research projects from Bethune-Cookman University\, one of 101 historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) in America.\nKrejci will also discuss the importance of training diverse researchers\, as well as the barriers that racism presents for black students in science by sharing their stories and future aspirations.\n\nInterested guests for the October lecture may log in for the Zoom presentation at:\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/…/reg…/WN_uXB4u12hT_CRUrVTSAon7Q\n\nThe program is free\, but participants must set up a personal Zoom account to access the webinar. MDC will continue to offer programs online during COVID-19 precautions for the remainder of 2020.\n\nFor more information about the lecture\, contact the Marine Discovery Center at 386-428-4828.

SUMMARY:FMNP Instructor Mentoring Program
DESCRIPTION:FMNP Instructor Mentoring Program\nvia ZOOM \nHi FMNP Staff and FAB Members\, \nIt’s time for our Monthly Instructor Mentorship Program! We hope that each of you can attend and encourage your fellow instructors to attend as well. Each call should be about 45 minutes and include a discussion on a special topic\, as well as updates and time for general Q&A (so it’s also helpful to have staff and experienced instructors on the line to help answer questions): \n * Updates from the FMNP Program Office (5 minutes) * Special Topic presentation (provided by one of you!) (20-30 minutes) \n* Special Topic Q&A (5-10 minutes) \n* General FMNP Q&A (5 minutes) \nAll board members and any FMNP instructors are encouraged and welcomed to present on a topic. We expect each regional representative to host 1 topic per year (this can be done by you OR you can recruit someone from your region). You may share your screen/video if you want (encouraged but not required) and it will also be recorded. Please let me know if there is a particular topic or month you are interested in.
