DESCRIPTION:Do you know why frogs are so important to our world\, and how by saving them\, we save the environment?\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nExplore challenges frogs are facing\, as well as some ways that ordinary people of all ages can help.  Learn about our very own Florida frogs\, and maybe even croak in a human frog chorus!  Program suitable for all ages. \nJoin Avalon Theisen\, the young founder of Conserve It Forward\, Inc. for Florida Frogs! \nAbout Avalon: \nA passionate changemaker with over a decade of service to people and planet\, Avalon Jade Theisen is dedicated to empowering others to Conserve It Forward for a sustainable future and inspiring the next generation of peacemakers. At age 7\, she first realized she could make positive\, effective change. Her efforts resulted in the creation of a non-profit organization. Encouraging the use of kindness and compassion to confront global issues\, she has traveled the world to share her message and work alongside others. \nA graduate of the University of South Florida\, Avalon Jade was a member of the Judy Genshaft Honors College and Provost Scholars Program\, where she studied Religious Studies\, especially its cultural relationship to nature and food. These topics have been the focus of her academic research\, including multiple presentations and being published. \nCurrently a Ph.D. student at Arizona State University\, her research continues to focus on religious studies\, ecology\, anthropology\, and volunteering efforts. With a goal of helping other people understand new concepts that can improve quality of life and planet health\, a common theme she uses is “Small Acts\, BIG Change” to demonstrate how our collective\, positive actions add up to have great impact. No one is alone\, we are all in this together! \nShe believes that when we better understand each other’s foundational beliefs\, we improve our connections and can more effectively collaborate to solve local and global challenges. Her academic experience reflects the journey of service and academics she has been on since childhood. \nTeaching elementary\, middle\, and high school students about cultural empathy\, peacemaking\, sustainability and world religions through curriculum she created\, Avalon Jade has been a educator at Athena’s Advanced Academy since 2017. She loves helping her students understand others and the world we live in. \nTo maintain balance and focus\, Avalon practices mindfulness\, meditation\, and yoga. DESCRIPTION:Families with little ones can enjoy nature-themed stories and crafts at the Weedon Island Preserve. \n\n\nEvery first and third Friday of each month\, families of pre-school aged children are invited to explore the wonders of the natural world at the Weedon Island Preserve. Families will be treated to rhymes\, stories\, and crafts that connect them to our environment. Activities are intended for youth aged 3-5. \nThis program will take place inside the Cultural and Natural History Center unless otherwise specified. DESCRIPTION:Tampa Bay Watch is offering high school students an opportunity to earn community service hours this summer. The program is scheduled to take place on Wednesday mornings 9 AM – 12 PM from June 7 – July 19 at our facility in Tierra Verde with a maximum of fifteen volunteers per project. The minimum age to participate is 15 years old. Examples of projects include assisting with native plantings\, oyster shell recycling\, cleaning fishing line\, and coastal cleanups. \nInterested students should email rarndt@tampabaywatch.org with a cell phone number and the dates they’d like to participate.

We have a water filling station so reusable water bottles are highly encouraged.\nClosed toed shoes are required.\nMust wear appropriate outdoor clothing. SUMMARY:Florida Youth Naturalist Exploration Week
DESCRIPTION:A week-long exploration through Florida’s ecosystems for young naturalists ages 10 to 13! \n\n\nCalling all young naturalists! The Florida Youth Naturalist Program is for young nature enthusiasts interested in learning more about Florida’s environment. Inspired by the Florida Master Naturalist program\, this youth program takes kids aged 10 to 13 on a journey through Florida’s ecosystems\, from the uplands\, through freshwater\, and to the coast. \nThis week-long exploration through Florida’s ecosystems will be taught by Brooker Creek Preserve staff\, Pinellas County & State Park Rangers\, and volunteers\, as a part of Pinellas County 4-H. \n\nOpen to anyone ages 10-13 (you do not have to be a 4-H member)\nCost is $100 for non 4-H members\, $75 for 4-H members – nonrefundable\nParticipants must bring a bag lunch\, snacks\, and a drink each day. We have a water filling station so reusable water bottles are highly encouraged.\nClosed toed shoes are required.\nMust wear appropriate outdoor clothing.
