DESCRIPTION:The Clearwater Coast Guard Auxiliary is offering “About Boating Safely” taught by certified instructors at 510 North Ft. Harrison Ave\, Clearwater. The class meets on the second weekend of the month from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm.  \nThis course includes the topics of Boating Law\, Safety Equipment\, Navigation and Vessel Maintenance. \nThe boating safety class is also a requirement for many boaters in Florida. In the Sunshine State\, anyone born after Jan. 1\, 1988\, must successfully complete a boater safety course approved by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) in order to operate any boat powered by more than 10 horsepower\, and they are required to carry their boater education card with them when out on the water along with picture ID. \nContact the Coast Guard Auxiliary\, Clearwater Flotilla\, for boating safety classes at: www.clwboatingsafety.com or by email at clwtr.auxboating@gmail.com or call 727-469-8895. \n

Please check back for updates\, close/open\, and event information at http://www.weedonislandpreserve.org/ \n  \nGoing Coastal:\nSaltwater Seining \nCome to Weedon Island and get your feet wet learning about what lives in our local marine environment! \nParticipants will learn in the classroom and out in the field about invertebrates and fish that make the waters of Weedon Island Preserve their home.  We will use dip nets and seine nets to collect and categorize local critters. \nParticipants must be able to walk on paved and natural paths for 20 minutes to get to the field sampling site\, and for the return hike. You must bring closed toed wading shoes (keens\, scuba botties\, old tennis shoes)\, and wear clothes that you don’t mind getting wet as we will get wet up to our waists while out in the water. It is also suggested to bring a water bottle\, hat\, sun protection\, and insect repellent. \nThis program is for adults and youth ages 12+. Children must be accompanied by an adult. \nQuestions or concerns?
