SUMMARY:Gopher Tortoise Walk & Talk
DESCRIPTION:Walk with us at Weedon Island and learn about this keystone species! \n\n\nJoin a guided tour to learn about the six species of North American tortoises\, with a focus on our native gopher tortoise. We will explore this keystone species and environmental engineer\, and learn how to “read” a tortoise burrow. This is an easy interpretive walk (less than 1 mile) in the Preserve’s upland habitat. \nThis tour will be led by George L. Heinrich. Mr. Heinrich is a field biologist and environmental educator specializing in Florida reptiles. His company\, Heinrich Ecological Services is based in St. Petersburg\, Florida and conducts wildlife surveys and research\, natural history programming\, and nature-based tours. George is currently the Executive Director of the Florida Turtle Conservation Trust. \nThis tour is for adults and youth ages 13+. \n>>> RESERVE A SPOT <<<

DESCRIPTION:Families with little ones can enjoy nature-themed stories and crafts at the Weedon Island Preserve.\n\n\nFamilies of pre-school aged children (3-5 years old) are invited to explore the wonders of the Weedon Island Preserve! This class will focus on the Gopher Tortoise\, a keystone species and icon of the Preserve. In addition to learning about these special tortoises though crafts and activities\, families can also participate in the Gopher Tortoise Tot Trot.
