DESCRIPTION:Early birds catch the worms — and the discounts!\nWe’ll be highlighting the trips that sold out first last year in a series of emails\, but the entire schedule is online at https://www.floridabirdingandnaturefestival.org/schedule.html so you can take advantage of the early-bird pricing through July. \nPre-festival bus trip Join four of the state’s best birders — Dave Goodwin\, Jim Eager\, Bob Snow and Cole Frederick — on a day-long excursion to Saddle Creek Park and Circle B Bar Reserve\, where you can expect to see dozens of species\, (Visit https://www.floridabirdingandnaturefestival.org/schedule.html) for the full list.) This is definitely an early-bird excursion\, with the bus boarding at 7 a.m. to take advantage of a full day of birding. \nCoffeepot Bayou Bird Island Audubon’s Jeff Liechy takes the helm of Tampa Bay Watch’s Discovery Eco-Tour Boat for an evening trip and a close-up view of colonial waterbirds. (They won’t be nesting so we won’t disturb them.) \nOutback Key and Lower Terra Ceia Bay Eric Plage and Holley Short will lead this boat trip to two of the region’s prime birding spots. An ephemeral barrier island\, Outback Key isn’t easily accessible so the birds are extraordinarily comfortable with visitors. The Pinellas National Wildlife Refuge is a roosting site for Magnificent Frigatebirds. \nFort De Soto by land David Goodwin and Jim Eager are back again with trips for advanced birders on Saturday and Sunday morning. Henderson followed Audubon’s footsteps and paddled in his wake to look for birds in the same places. His previous book\, Forces of Nature\, celebrates the people and organizations who made Florida a leader in state-funded conservation and land management. \n  \n  \nParticipants in last year’s birding festival logged a total of 145 species of birds\, ranging from Wild Turkeys to Magnificant Frigatebirds. DESCRIPTION:August is the best time to see Black Terns on the south side of Gandy Blvd. at Gandy Beach.  There are also Least Terns and Black Skimmers.  It’s a great place to practice shorebird identification.  We hope to avoid the heat and people and their unleashed dogs by starting at 7:00 am.  If you’re driving from Tampa\, the beach is on your left after you cross Gandy Bridge.  If you’re coming from Pinellas County\, the beach is on your right just before the bridge.  There are no bathroom facilities. \nAdvance registration is required. Please contact the Trip Leader for further coordination. Be sure to plan accordingly: bring water\, snacks (lunch is appropriate)\, hat\, sunscreen\, binoculars\, and dress for the weather (see the current forecast for Tampa below on this page). DESCRIPTION:Davis Park is an underappreciated hotspot in Brandon just north of Highway 60 off of Parsons. The park has one named lake\, Mead Lake\, and two unnamed lakes. All three lakes are home to breeding Wood Ducks\, Sandhill Cranes and other waterfowl. Black-bellied Ducks\, Wood Ducks\, Black-crown Night Herons\, cranes and other bird species roost for the night in the park. DESCRIPTION:Come out for this “early morning” walk in the woods. \nCome out for this “early morning” walk in the woods with Alexa\, our awesome volunteer\, to seek out the resident and visiting birds of Brooker. Beginners and all levels of birders welcome. Meet in the parking lot at 8:00 a.m. \nThis is a free hike\, however space is limited. Please be courteous and do not register unless you plan to attend and cancel your reservation if you can no longer attend. \nGuided Hike Information \nVolunteer Hike Guides will meet participants in the parking lot 10 minutes before the scheduled start time. We strongly suggest all hikers visit the restroom (located in the Classroom Building) before we begin as there are no facilities along the trail. \n\nGuided hikes are under a mile in length\, much of which is on unimproved\, uneven sandy trails.\n\n\nHikes take about two (2) hours to complete.\n\n\nPlease wear sturdy\, closed-toe shoes\, sneakers or boots.\n\n\nInsect repellent (bug spray) is strongly recommended in summer months.\n\n\nBring plenty of drinking water and a snack.\n\n\nA hat\, sunglasses\, and sunscreen are also recommended.\n\n\nPets are not permitted.\n\n\nNo smoking is allowed.\n\n\nTrained volunteers will guide the hike.\n\n>>> REGISTER HERE <<<
