SUMMARY:Invasive Exotic Plants on Nature Lands
DESCRIPTION:The Nature Coast Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society meets the second Tuesday of every month at 7:00 PM at The Land O’ Lakes Heritage Park Community Center\, 5401 Land O’ Lakes Blvd/US 41\, Land O’ Lakes\, 34639\, between SR 52 and SR 54. The subject of the February 8\, 2022 meeting is “Invasive Exotic Plants on Nature Lands” presented by Michael Terry. This presentation will focus on the invasive plant species on the Southwest Florida Water Management District’s (SWFWMD) Upper Hillsborough Tract – 6\,978 acres that protects the upper reaches of the Hillsborough River. This river’s floodplain provides natural storage of floodwaters\, acts as a filtration system for runoff and serves as an important link in protecting wildlife habitat in the Hillsborough River greenway corridor. Mike will identify some of the invasive plant species on the property\, describe the damage they cause\, and explain what is being done to remove these invasives from this property. \nMichael is the Senior Vegetation Management Specialist in the Operations and Land Management Bureau with SWFWMD. He has been with the District for 37 years\, working with terrestrial and aquatic exotic vegetation. His duties include working with private contractors on SWFWMD lands to oversee their exotic treatment and helicopter surveys for Old World Climbing Fern. He also works control burns and wildfires as needed. \nMeetings of the Chapter are free\, and all interested parties are invited to attend and bring questions about their yard. There will not be any refreshments or drinks available\, so everyone needs to bring their own. Please wear a mask! Telephone inquiries are taken by Molly at (813) 469-9597. \nChapter website: http://www.pasconativeplants.org.

SUMMARY:Respirator Safety Training
DESCRIPTION:OSHA Respiratory Requirements for Worker Protection Standards\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAre you a pesticide applicator using restricted-use pesticides that require the use of a respirator? Agricultural commodities like row crops\, tree crops\, forestry crops\, nurseries\, and other agricultural applications are the common commodities that the training applies to. We will provide guidelines on pesticide safety\, label interpretations\, and PPE information for use of respirators. \nIf you have asked yourself these questions\, we will answer these during the training session. \n·Can I do a fit test myself? \n·How soon do I need to change my cartridges? \n·What documentation do I need to stay in compliance? \n·What OSHA components of the respiratory protection were incorporated into the WPS? \n·How do I select the right respirator? \n·Do I need to see a doctor to wear a respirator? \nWe will help you understand NIOSH nomenclature on respirators. We will have a representative present who offers respirator fit testing. \nREGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:Is Your Neighborhood Pond Actually a Stormwater Pond?
DESCRIPTION:Wetlands are Florida’s original stormwater systems and once covered more than half the state.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this Event\n\n\nWetlands are Florida’s original stormwater systems and once covered more than half the state. Now we have infrastructure that mimics this natural water system. Stormwater ponds are constructed to prevent flooding\, improve water quality\, and add aesthetic value to a home. Unfortunately\, some of these ponds are covered with nuisance vegetation\, have significant erosion\, experience fish kills\, and look plain awful. Pinellas County Environmental Management will walk you through basic stormwater pond management and offer advice in improving your neighborhood stormwater pond! \nRegistration:  https://www.eventbrite.com/e/is-your-neighborhood-pond-actually-a-stormwater-pond-tickets-75001620867
