There will be a Pollinator Encounter tent to experience these helpful\, harmless insects close-up. Various organizations will be available to answer questions about growing wildflowers\, attracting pollinators\, and being a good friend to Nature in Pinellas County! SUMMARY:Youth Workshop: Ancient Pottery
DESCRIPTION:Learn to make pottery like the ancient people who once lived at Weedon Island. Over 1\,000 years ago\, early potters were making coiled pots out of clay and sand for cooking vessels and ceremonial functions. This workshop will teach youth how to form a small-coiled pot and add distinctive decorations using early techniques. \nThis workshop is recommended for youth ages 6 and up. All youth must be accompanied by an adult for the full duration of the class. The workshop is limited to 30 participants total. \nThis workshop will be led by Phyllis Kolianos\, an archaeologist with the Alliance for Weedon Island Archaeological Research and Education\, Inc. DESCRIPTION:Walk the boardwalks and natural paths of Weedon Island\, capturing photographs of native flora and fauna along the way. \n\n\nGrab your camera of choice and enjoy a guided tour of the trails at the Weedon Island Preserve! This hike has been timed to coincide with a low tide at the Preserve so participants will have the best chance for viewing wading birds and other wildlife that come to forage on the tidal flats at this time. \nAttendees will meet inside the Cultural and Natural History Center for a brief introduction to highlight the seasonal features of the Preserve\, as well as specific wildlife behaviors\, that will help participants capture the natural beauty of the area. This hike is roughly 1.5 miles in total length on a combination of boardwalks and unimproved\, natural paths.
