DESCRIPTION:Presenting the internationally recognized Grow Permaculture Full Online Permaculture Design Course with hands-on learning and mentoring.\nNow more than ever\, people have attention on creating more choices and resilience in their lives. We want healthy food\, a clean environment\, and security for us\, our children and future generations. This course offers practical steps to achieving these things in your own life\, regardless of your circumstances.\nIn this course you will learn: \n\nHow to apply permaculture techniques to design your life.\nHow to grow your own food abundantly and sustainably.\nHow to increase your own abundance and quality of life while helping to heal the planet.\nHow to create and deepen beneficial connections with nature and with other people.\nHow to create a career using permaculture.\n\nWe have gotten many requests to offer an online version from people whose schedules don’t match up with our in-person courses or who prefer to study online. This course can be studied at your own pace\, with a focus on your own site design. Creating the opportunity for a participatory and hands-on experience is important to us\, so we include practical exercises that you perform on your own site. \nIn addition we have live bi-weekly Q and A sessions and personal mentoring with instructors and you will be able to share your experience with instructors and other students via photos\, essays or videos.\nWe have added some exciting learning modules to the online version and other extras\, including units with experts covering various topics.\nThe course will address strategies for drylands\, temperate\, tropical and other climates based on the significant knowledge and experience of our instructors working in those climates and will also have bonus sections focused specifically on Florida/subtropical climate because of how unique the ecosystem is in Florida. Many of these techniques are very useful in multiple climates and we explain how and why. \nStudents will have an opportunity to self-test their knowledge\, to join discussion groups with other students\, to participate in question and answer sessions on Zoom (online video conference software) with instructors\, and to get feedback from a personal mentor. \nThere are additional in-depth materials offered for each section of the course as well as a resource list where you can find more information on that topic and explore areas of interest more deeply. \nEach student will complete a permaculture design of the site of their choice\, working through it step-by-step to ensure you have an understanding of each step of the process. SUMMARY:Green Industries Best Management Practices (GIBMP) Certification
DESCRIPTION:GIBMP Certification is required to obtain the FDACS Limited Urban Fertilizer license. The class provides CEUs to renew landscape licenses. \n\n\n\n\n\nAnyone who applies fertilizer commercially/for hire in Florida is required to have the FDACS Limited Fertilizer license/certification. There are 2 steps to obtain the FDACS Fertilizer license/certification: \n\nAttend a GIBMP class and pass the exam with a minimum score of 75%. You will receive a certificate of training from UF/IFAS and DEP.\nComplete the FDACS license/certification application on the FDACS website link HERE \, chose “New Urban Landscape Commercial Fertilizer”\, upload your GIBMP certificate of training\, and pay the $25 fee for a 4 year license/certification. This renews every 4 years with 2 Core and 2 LUF CEUs.\n\nThis class provides the training and exam required to obtain a Limited Certification for Urban Landscape Commercial Fertilizer (LCULCF) also known as Fertilizer License\, as required by FL Senate Bill 494. \nThis program teaches the Best Management Practices for anyone working\, supervising or advising in the lawn\, landscape\, pest control\, or municipal grounds areas. The training is focused on reducing non-point source pollution resulting from fertilization or pesticide application and includes: \n\nLunch\nTraining Materials\nOverview of Water Quality and Laws\nLawn and Landscape Best Management Practices\nIrrigation Best Management Practices\nFertilization Best Management Practices\nPesticide Best Management Practices\nOverview of Local County/Municipality Ordinances\nApplications for LCULCF and Vehicle Decals\nExam\n\nFor a sneak peek at the training manual go : GI-BMP Manual \nThe Hillsborough County Landscape Management and Fertilizer Use Rule and the City of Tampa Fertilizer Ordinance require all commercial\, governmental and institutional fertilizer applicators to be GI-BMP certified and that work vehicles be identified with a vehicle decal. \nThis training may be taken to satisfy some FDACS and FNGLA CEU requirements. \n>>> REGISTER HERE

Lunch will be provided and we will return to HC Extension by 1600. \nHighlights of the tour will include a visit to a tropical aquaculture farm\, Astin Farms\, a tour of the UF/IFAS Gulf Coast Research and Education Center\, and other Hillsborough County farms. \nCost is $5 which includes lunch. DESCRIPTION:The Southwest Florida Small Farmer Network is a peer-to-peer network focused on exploring diversified and sustainable farming systems. \n\n\n\n\n\nThis group is open to established and beginning farmers in Southwest Florida and hosted by UF/IFAS Extension Agents in the region. \nConnect with farmers and food entrepreneurs in the region. \nWe’ll take a farmer-led tour of Stalk & Vine on 39 in Lithia and learn about the production methods\, small farm equipment\, and marketing strategies for small-scale farms. \nThere will be a presentation on the Cottage Food Law\, then representatives from other agencies will give an overview of their roles and how they can work with small scale farmers. \nUF/IFAS Extension will be hosting lunch. DESCRIPTION:OSHA Respiratory Requirements for Worker Protection Standards\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAre you a pesticide applicator using restricted-use pesticides that require the use of a respirator? Agricultural commodities like row crops\, tree crops\, forestry crops\, nurseries\, and other agricultural applications are the common commodities that the training applies to. We will provide guidelines on pesticide safety\, label interpretations\, and PPE information for use of respirators. \nIf you have asked yourself these questions\, we will answer these during the training session. \n·Can I do a fit test myself? \n·How soon do I need to change my cartridges? \n·What documentation do I need to stay in compliance? \n·What OSHA components of the respiratory protection were incorporated into the WPS? \n·How do I select the right respirator? \n·Do I need to see a doctor to wear a respirator? \nWe will help you understand NIOSH nomenclature on respirators. DESCRIPTION:See what the training is all about in our two promo videos: Video 1 or Video 2 \nExploring Environmental Education Curriculum Options (ECO) Teacher Training Workshop \nThe University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) Extension Pinellas County’s Natural Resources Agent has teamed up with St. Petersburg College\, College of Education Professor to offer this nationally award-winning\, week-long environmental education workshop for pre-service elementary & ESE education students\, current elementary & ESE teachers\, and non-formal educators. \nThe aim of this workshop is to provide participants with tools and information to interpret the natural world and impart the need for resource conservation to their audience. Using local\, state\, and national curricula correlated to Florida Standards\, participants will be given activities and resources to help foster environmental knowledge and good environmental stewardship in their students. \nEach day will feature different environmental subjects and professional speakers will be brought in to provide background knowledge to participants. Workshop sessions will conclude with a reflection and an evaluation of the day’s activities.
