DESCRIPTION:This is the first on many Sierra Club Military Outings. \nThree hours of hiking in the Trout Creek site.\nPrepare for heat and relatively flat terrain with some periods of thick roots that may make high stepping necessary in certain parts. Much of the trail is shaded but some parts are not- at least one liter of water and a set of closed toe shoes are necessary. That would include access to fresh\, healthy food\, clean water\, clean air\, educational opportunities\, lots of art\, music\, dance and theatre\, parks and nature\, community gathering places\, community gardens\, decent mass transit\, and healthy neighborhoods. What is your vision of what Clearwater could be? \nWe currently have “Green Mixers” every third Tuesday at Moccasin Lake Nature Park at 6 PM.  Every month\, we meet more great people at these. \nA few of us are working on some projects to revitalize the downtown area. We have some great ideas in the works\, and are looking for more people to play with. What would you like to see happen downtown? \nWe are interested in getting community gardens going and there is some great news on that front too. We’ll keep you updated here. \nWe want to know what is important to you and what you would like to see happen in this city\, so please\, let us know!

DESCRIPTION:Meet at the parking lot at the intersection of Snow Memorial Highway and US-41\, Brooksville\, FL 34601. It’s 6 miles north of Brooksville.  Bring water\, snacks\, and lunch if you want.\n\nWe’ll walk about 4 miles in to view the May’s Prairie wetland and back out.  It’s a wide\, well-kept trail\, with lots of birds!  Red-headed Woodpeckers and Barred Owls were the stars on our last walk\, and warblers\, thrushes\, and wading birds should be around in good numbers.\n\nThere is a picnic table by the parking lot\, so if you bring lunch we can eat there when we’re done.\nLeader Mary.keith@tampaaudubon.org 813-767-5863\n\nImportant! SUMMARY:Blackwater Creek Nature Preserve
DESCRIPTION:Located north of Plant City\, the Blackwater Creek Nature Preserve (BCNP) is a 2\,200-acre site maintained by Hillsborough County.  BCNP is mostly flat and the trail is a mixture of grass and sand.  While there are several stands of long leaf pines and cypress heads\, the trail is mostly unshaded and generally follows the edges of several wide fields.  We plan on hiking the red trail\, which includes a short walk down to the namesake creek.\nThe total length of our walk is approximately 4.1 miles.  Please wear comfortable shoes and sunscreen if needed.  There are no restrooms at BCNP\, so plan accordingly.\nBirds commonly seen at BCNP during February include Eastern Bluebirds\, Eastern Towhees\, and assorted Warblers.  Less common sightings include Northern Harriers and Bachman’s Sparrows.  Given the large fields and open views\, 10X binoculars will come in handy\, but 8X will be fine.\n\nImportant!
