SUMMARY:Florida's Carnivorous Plants
DESCRIPTION:Learn about Florida’s amazing carnivorous plants! \n\n\nLearn about Florida’s endemic carnivorous plants! Florida has dozens of native species of carnivorous plants––more than any other state in the United States—including sundews\, butterworts\, bladderworts\, and pitcher plants. These plants use appealing scents\, leaves\, and sticky fluids to trap and imprison insects. Digestive fluids then absorb the prey giving the plant its nutrients. Learn the evolution\, people\, and natural history of this area to discover why Florida is a hotspot of carnivorous plants. \n  \nPresented by Kenny Coogan\, author of the new book “Florida’s Carnivorous Plants”. \nKenny’s book “Florida’s Carnivorous Plants” and a selection of carnivorous plants will be available for purchase after the talk! \n>>> REGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:The Lighter Side of Photographing Manatee County's Birds
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an evening of photography with a dose of humor. Courtland White\, a “Snow-Bird” and amateur nature photographer from the mountains of North Carolina has been striving to get that “Perfect Shot” for many years.  Photographing Florida birds is both easy and surprisingly difficult.  Easy\, because many Florida birds are large\, colorful\, and often approachable.  Difficult\, because the competition among the many skilled\, well-equipped – and more patient – photographers here is at such a high level.  Although that unique\, prize-worthy image remains elusive\, Courtland has captured along the way a collection of bird photographs that gave him a “smile.” Enjoy a presentation of Courtland’s photography and the stories that made the photos. \nProgram suitable for adults. Reservations are required. \nTo register please visit https://www.eventbrite.com/e/244011443797. For more information please contact aedan.stockdale@mymanatee.org. \nRobinson Preserve – Mosaic NEST

SUMMARY:Sunday Wind Trio
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy an afternoon of classical music in the museum at Weedon Island Preserve!\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this Event\n\n\nJoin us at the Weedon Island Preserve Cultural and Natural History Center for a pop-up classical music performance by Classical Revolution St. Pete! Classical Revolution’s trio of professional musicians will play a medley of brass and woodwind-focused pieces in two sets. The first performance will begin at 1PM and last 30-40 minutes\, followed by a short intermission\, and then a second performance. \nClassical Revolution St Pete was founded in 2017 as a new St. Petersburg chapter of Classical Revolution\, a chamber music organization whose goal is simple: To bring high quality classical music to the people. By performing in unexpected and non-traditional venues\, Classical Revolution creates a space for people to enjoy classical music in a relaxed atmosphere\, introduces classical music to new audiences\, and provides additional performance opportunities to local musicians. \nThis performance is sponsored by the Friends of Weedon Island (FOWI)\, a non-profit 501c3 organization supporting the Weedon Island Preserve through education\, preservation\, and protection of its habitat\, ecology\, and cultural history. \nIf you attended our inaugural Sunday String Quartet in January\, then you know this program is very popular! Due to our having limited seating\, all seats for this performance will be $5/person*. Proceeds from this event go to support the Friends of Weedon Island’s mission. On the day of the concert\, you will have the opportunity to roll your admission fee into the price of a student\, individual or family membership for FOWI! \n————————————————————– \n*Refunds on tickets will be accepted up to 48 hours before the concert begins. \nQuestions or concerns?
