SUMMARY:Return the Preserve Work Day
DESCRIPTION:The Return The Preserve Work Days focus on areas of the preserve where exotic invasive vegetation and unnatural overgrowth exists.  It is our goal to help return the preserve to its natural beauty. \nWorking with FOBCP leadership and Preserve staff\, volunteers provide the much needed hands-on support necessary to remove nuisance plants providing a more healthy environment for native wildlife. \nRegistration is required. This event is capped at 25 volunteers. In addition\, the Volunteer Form must be completed and brought with you the day of the event. \nThis Work Day will be focusing on the Friends Trail located at the end of Lora Lane. Lora Lane is located a 1/2 mile west of the main Brooker Entrance off of Keystone. You travel one mile on Lora Lane until the road ends\, and park. Registered participants will meet at 7:45\, start at 8:00\, and work until 11:00. \nImportant notes: There are no facilities or restrooms at this site. \nPlease bring clippers\, loppers\, hand saws\, gloves\, hat\, and sunscreen. DESCRIPTION:Take a walk through the early history of Weedon Island to learn about the indigenous cultures that lived here long ago.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLed by professional archaeologists with the Florida Public Archaeology Network\, hike to an active archaeological dig-site on Weeden Island. Attendees will learn about the early peoples that inhabited Weedon Island thousands of years ago\, and the ongoing work being done by researchers to better understand these ancient cultures and how they interacted with their environment. \nThis hike is recommended for adults and youth ages 12+. Participants should be prepared for a 2 mile hike on uneven terrain. \nProceeds will support the West Central chapter of the Florida Public Archaeology Network (FPAN)\, an organization that promotes and facilitates the stewardship\, public appreciation\, and value of Florida’s archaeological heritage through regional centers\, partnerships\, and community engagement.
