Be a PEEPer!

The Pinellas Energy Efficiency Project (PEEP), funded with a $3.5 million grant from the US Department of Energy, offers free classes on energy efficiency at locations across the county.

The classes provide tips and incentives on how to make your home more energy efficient, while still maintaining the same level of comfort. Pinellas residents attending the classes will receive energy-saving compact fluorescent light bulbs and energy conservation materials. They’ll also become part of a larger project, with follow up calls to document the energy-saving measures they have taken. Classes are scheduled at 1:30 p.m. July 17 at the Clearwater Public Library, 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 10 at the Dunedin Community Center and 10:30 a.m. at the Pinellas County Extension in Largo.

Join us for a hands-on opportunity to earn the Scout Archaeology Merit Badge through this archaeology workshop. This morning workshop presented by the Central Gulf Coast Archaeological Society is packed full of activities to satisfy most of the merit badge requirements. Learn why populations of frogs and other amphibian species are declining rapidly around the world. Like old fashioned canaries in the coal mine, amphibians may be giving us signals about the health of the planet’s wetlands. Pollution is considered the second greatest threat to aquatic and amphibious species in the United States, yet very little research has been dedicated to study its overall impact. Come discover the hidden world of the estuary with some of the smallest critters that live in Tampa Bay. Our classroom will have live samples of plankton from Tampa Bay to examine and identify.
