April 17, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Celebrate Earthfest and Arbor Day at Pinellas County Extension Service and Florida Botanical Gardens with wildlife and nature tours, birdhouse workshops, hands-on activities for children and adults, environmental programs and displays, artist demonstrations and music. April 17, 2004, 9:00 a.m. to 2 p.m., Canoe the Homosassa River with naturalists from the Florida Aquarium. April 22 and April 24, 9 a.m. to noon, Palonis Park Oyster Bar Construction on Tampa side of the Gandy Bridge. Volunteers are needed to shovel oyster shell into buckets, carry the buckets to boats and unload buckets at oyster bar site. Small flat-bottomed boats are also needed to transport the shell. Calling All Science Teachers:
Double Your Fun This Summer

arrowFree teacher training workshops will help middle and high school teachers bring high-tech tools such as satellite images and computer mapping into classrooms. The "Wetland Education Through Maps and Aerial Photography" workshops examine changes in habitats of the Manatee River, utilizing traditional maps and aerial photographs in addition to state-of-the-art tools such as satellite images and GIS computer technology. Exercises are correlated to the National Standards in Science, Math, and Geography. Two 2¸-day sessions are scheduled on June 21-23 and June 24-26. Both sessions will be held at the Florida Marine Research Institute in St. Petersburg. The workshops are free, but attendance is limited and preregistration is required.
