This will be an overview of the Coastal Wildlife Conservation Initiative (CWCI), an FWC-led multi-agency strategy with the vision of ensuring the long-term preservation and conservation of native wildlife in coastal ecosystems throughout Florida in balance with human activities. To implement this initiative, the FWC plans to work with partners to create a statewide cooperative process to provide for greater consistency and coordination in protecting coastal wildlife populations, conserving and managing coastal ecosystems, and achieving balance between conservation and opportunities for recreation, commerce, and responsible development along the coast. Nov 23, 9am, J. B. Starkey Wilderness Bike Ride, Meet at McDonald’s on SR 54 and Suncoast Parkway. This 20 mile round-trip bike ride will take us north along the Suncoast Parkway bike trail and into Starkey Wilderness Park. Our destination will be the picnic area in the park where we will have lunch. After lunch we will hike down to the nearby river and stretch our legs before heading back. We will learn how Starkey Park became a part of our region’s water supply system and it’s acquistion history. Bring water, lunch, snacks and bug spray.
